Oil on masonite board (Ampersand™ Gessobord™)

"Wild Preservation" is an exploration of the natural world's unyielding spirit, a testament to resilience, and an intimate portrait of the sublime beauty inherent in wild landscapes. Rendered in oil, this piece vividly captures a section of the College Lake reservoir near Tring, under a sky dotted with imposing clouds casting wild whirls and dark shadows over the fields and trees. In this painting, I aimed to strike a delicate balance, highlighting the tension between nature's inherent wildness and our human urge for preservation and control. The landscape, undeniably wild yet meticulously preserved, reflects our persistent struggle to coexist with nature without diminishing its innate wilderness.

The dark shadows from the clouds, while evoking a sense of awe and mystery, mirror the uncertainties and challenges we face in preserving the wild. Meanwhile, the cloud's wild whirls echo the stirring of life below – the constant, dynamic interplay of preservation and natural evolution. "Wild Preservation" invites the viewer to ponder the fine line between stewardship and dominance, between allowing nature to take its course and enforcing our protective measures. It implores us to respect the wild's resilience while acknowledging our role in its preservation. This tension, this dance, is the crux of our relationship with the natural world, a relationship painted in strokes of reverence, responsibility, and awe.
