Little Langdale

Little Langdale

This is one of my favourite holiday locations in the UK. Little Langdale in the Lake District (Cumbria) of North-West England. The mountains are not as tall as my beloved Alps but their geological history is much older. It is incredible to think that a vast ocean (Iapetus Ocean) once separated England from Scotland and that the two plates slowly closed during the Silurian (about 400 million years ago) generating the Caledonian orogeny (mountain building) to which the ‘hills’ of the Lake District belong.
