Running Deep, acrylic on a 50 × 50 × 4 cm stretched canvas is inspired by a late-summer morning walk along the disused Wendover Canal, part of the Grand Union Canal, near the Chiltern Hills on the horizon.
The “still waters” of the canal hide a long history of use between 1794 and 1897. The proverb “still waters run deep” seems to be appropriate for such a location.
