Pen y Fan

Pen y Fan is the highest peak of the Brecon Beacons in South Wales. Pen in welsh means ‘top, head, peak or summit’; ‘y’ is the article ‘the’; and ‘fan’ is a mutation of ‘ban’ or ‘summit, crest, peak, beacon, hill, mountain’. In short, the name means ‘summit the summit’… LOL.

As a geologist, this is a fascinating formation of Old Red Sandstone laid down during the Devonian period.
