Last summer I’ve visited Hughenden Manor, near High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire. A Victorian mansion that served as the country house of Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli, the 1st Earl of Beaconsfield. He was one of Queen Victoria’s favourite Prime Ministers. This is a view from inside the Manor, looking towards the gardens. I loved the variety of […]
Update: ‘Cumbrian Forest’ is one of DPW Facebook picks of the day! This is a little study of a tree and how it connects with its surroundings. I took this photo a few years back in the North of England in the Lake District (Cumbria). I love how the light filters through the canopies and […]
Update: ‘Chiesa Campestre, Roncaglia’ is one of DPW Facebook picks of the day! This is my first painting of 2022, a little rural church (Chiesa Campestre) near the ruins of Augusta Bagiennorum in my native region of Southern Piedmont, Italy. This is one of the many small Churches scattered in the countryside of my native […]
An early morning walk near Weston Turville inspired this little painting. The foggy weather front is replaced by the blue sky. This is a reworked painting I wasn’t satisfied with, the contrast between the lower-key values at the bottom of the painting and the sky seems to work better now.
Another painting inspired by College Lake near Pitstone in the Aylesbury Vale district of Buckinghamshire, a nearby nature reserve set in an old chalk quarry. The site is a sanctuary for more than a thousand species of wildlife on the lake, marshland and grassland. Here rare species of birds nest on the islands in the […]
On my daily walk around Weston Turville reservoir, the landscape is changing. Harvest is here and the new season is coming. I painted this in 2020 looking forward to the new year coming; It’s now the end of 2021 and we still don’t know when the new season will start.
I finally decided to hack a cheap pochade box I’ve bought years ago and create my own for painting ‘en plein air’, it’s called the Wochade™.
Some say it’s the glare of the sun, some say it’s a full moon. What do you think?
The Great Intake is the intriguing name of the dark mountain on the background of this painting. Part of series of artworks dedicated to the Cumbrian landscape.
Lingmoor Fell is the hill on the right of the painting. Part of series of artworks dedicated to this beautiful region of the North of England.
